Sheldon Lavin is the chairman and current CEO of OSI Group, a meat and food processing company.
Sheldon Lavin who‘s a Degree holder in Finance and Accounting got into the meat and food industry about 43 years ago. Before then he was a successful investor and senior executive in banking sector and even having his own financial consulting firm.
Lavin’s path to meat industry began in 1970 as a financial consultant to the Otto & Sons Company owned by Mr Otto and his sons, which later became OSI Group Company. Mr Otto and his sons had financial challenges to expand their company, and they started looking for investor partners overseas. Therefore, in 1975, Sheldon Lavin partnered with the two sons of Otto. Otto, the father, also retired from the business. Otto & Sons hence became OSI Group. Henceforth the company has expanded throughout Europe, North America, Australia, India, Japan, South Africa, and the Philippines. And, today it has about 20,000 employees.
Lavin’s vision and leadership resulted in rapid expansion of OSI Group from a domestic food processing company to a globally respected business. For young entrepreneurs, he is a global example of what it means to serve and lead.
Lavin is very concerned about overall welfare of the company and its employees. He makes them feel appreciated and compensated for their hard work. When asked from his employees, he is the best boss they’ve ever worked for.
Global Visionary Award is an honour awarded to visionaries in various fields who have turned their dreams into reality and show perseverance and persistence to accomplish their goals. It’s conducted by India’s Vision World Academy. On February 20, 2016, the veteran Lavin received the Global Visionary Award for his unrelenting efforts in making his dream a reality.
He and the OSI GROUP company have received other awards from non-profit and business entities like the prestigious Globe of Honour Award for 2016 from the British Safety Council. Sheldon Lavin is also a philanthropist and has contributed a lot to various charities including the Jewish United Fund (JWF), United Negro College Fund, Evans Scholarship Fund, Inner City Foundation, and NMSS (National Multiple Sclerosis Society).
