Avi Weisfogel, sleep expert and founder of Dental Sleep Masters says since the news has recently spotlighted sleep apnea, more people are beginning to question if they have the sleep disorder. It’s becoming more widespread, and a lot of that has to do with lifestyle choices. The rate of obesity, a cause of sleep disorders, has skyrockted, as well as smoking and heavy use of caffeine. Weisfogel also points out that while both men and women suffer from sleep apnea, it occurs more frequently in men than in women, and the risk increases over the age of 50 years in both sexes.
Fortunately, there are a few symptoms to help you decipher if you are a candidate suffering from sleep apnea;
The most obvious is the loud, obnoxious snoring. If you are a constant snorer, you should be evaluated. Snoring doesn’t mean you can be accurately labeled with sleep apnea, but as Avi Weisfogel points out, this can be a reason for an analysis.
Do you find yourself fighting to breathe, almost as if you were choking in your sleep. If it feels as though your airway was blocked, you should get tested for a sleep disorder.
Waking up with morning headaches are another possible sign of sleep apnea. As the body is deprived of oxygen, carbon dioxide increases causing blood vessels to dilate. This results in heachaches and should be checked out.
Fatigue is also a symptom of sleep apnea. When the majority of the night has been spent waking up for short periods of time, this disruption rears its head the next day, and people find themselves overly tired.
Sleep disorders are more hazardous to your overall health than you think. Sleep expert, Avi Weisfogel says its a serious disorder that can significantly increase the risk for many other health problems.
Avi Weisfogel began focusing on ideas in sleep apnea before graduating from New York University Dentistry School. Connecting the dots among the sleep disorder and the dental industry early on, he became a national advocate and launched Unlimited Sleep Patient in 2012. Then in 2014, Weisfogel founded Dental Sleep Masters, becoming a sought-after business coach on how the dental community could analyze and treat sleep apnea patients.
Today, Avi Weisfogel is a leading authority on sleep disturbances, and he continues his reseach into pinpointing modern solutions.
